General manager of The Victoria Falls Hotel since November 2012, Giulio Togni was born in Cape Town in 1976. He obtained qualifications in hotel management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and embarked on a career in the hospitality industry that has seen him at prestigious establishments in the Cape area such as The Cellar Country House, Beverley Hills Sun Inter-Continental, Table Bay Hotel, The Bay Hotel, Carlucci’s Delicatessen in Bantry Bay, the Mount Grace Hotel and Radisson SA Waterfront.

“I enjoy developing talent and empowering managers”

He joined Sun International and spent three months in 2005 as project food and beverage manager at the Royal Livingstone in Zambia, later returning to the Table Bay Hotel, where he was food and beverage manager for three years. He transferred back to the Royal Livingstone in 2008 as hotel manager and left there to join The Victoria Falls Hotel as general manager.

“As general manager I am responsible for all day-to-day activity of the hotel, but of course I conduct this with my excellent management team and staff,” he said. “One of the things I enjoy most is developing talent and empowering managers in a controlled manner, in order to see them grow.”

During his period of office, product improvement and efforts to implement strong guest satisfaction concepts have resulted in increased occupancies and revenue. A $3 million refurbishment programme was undertaken in 2013.

“Developing a Signature Wing to increase service and luxury”

Among his current tasks is developing a Signature Wing within the hotel to increase service and luxury levels and to ensure a product offering that satisfies the elite Leading Hotels of the World and Virtuoso guests from all over the planet.

Togni has a strong interest in food and wine and stays on top of international culinary and wine trends. He is also keen on travel, especially to become immersed in other cultures and societies, and is interested in both financial management and human resources management, with a view to self-improvement and being able to stimulate and motivate his team. He also loves golf but finds access to the course restricted because of work commitments.

Togni and his wife, Isabella, have a seven-year-old daughter, Chiara.
