ZAMBEZI TRAVELLER

The re-branding and main renovation of the Sprayview Hotel by the Cresta Hotels Group was completed to coincide with the UNWTO conference in August 2013. We speak to Glenn Stutchbury, the Group CEO, about Cresta Sprayview one year down the line.

ZT :What has occupancy been like since reopening?

CS :We were receiving booking requests well before the official opening as the news had spread that the hotel was under refurbishment. The number of patrons at the hotel has also improved since opening.

ZT :How many rooms do you have and have they all been fully renovated?

CS : We have 65 rooms: two luxury suites, three family rooms, with a king bed and two single beds in each, and 60 standard rooms (including 10 inter-leading rooms). All accommodation was renovated, every modern amenity is available, such as flat screen televisions with satellite channels, WIFI, usb chargers, safes and hair-driers, plus air- conditioning and electronic locking.

ZT: Aside from the rooms what else did you do to the original product?

CS: The Rainforest Bar was revamped and has a big TV screen for sport viewing. It’s an ideal place to host cocktail parties and private functions. The Railway Lounge and Bar was also refurbished; its theme incorporates the history of this hotel, the railway and the bridge, all of which are integral to Victoria Falls town.

We have a business centre comprising The Green Room, for conferences of up to 80 delegates, which had new air conditioning and modern AV and PA equipment installed and The Think Tank - a boardroom for smaller meetings, seating up to 15 people.

The pool area and terrace has been made a focus point of the hotel, for al fresco snacks and dining. Retail therapy is easy at a beautiful crafts shop while our Activities Desk, via the Wild Horizons Booking Office, can handle any bookings.

ZT :How is next year looking?

CS :Enquiries for 2015 are coming in and exceed forecasts, indicating that the market is becoming fully aware of the refurbished product and is responding.

ZT :What has been the feedback?

CS :Feedback has been very positive. The hotel is proving ideal for family getaways and both refurbishment and service have been highly recommended. Guests rave about the convenient location - first hotel as you arrive in the town - set in beautiful grounds and with a magnificent view of the legendary Falls plume of spray. We have added a new dimension to hospitality here and deliver great value for money in all departments.

ZT: Are there any future development plans?

CS: We are hoping to add a fitness centre in 2015, extend the dining area into an additional event space and there are plans for a new shuttle service for our guests.
