Now in its’ fifth year, the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Africa is a unique showcase of the continent’s best design talent, bringing to the catwalk designers based both in Africa and in the diaspora. This year it was held from 24th to 28th October at the prestigious Melrose Arch, Johannesburg in conjunction with the African Fashion International Trade Expo and the Africa Fashion Awards.

Local Victoria Falls company The Ndau Collection, was invited to take part both in the three day expo and to show on the runway, accessorising the Zimbabwean contingent of designers – Intisaar, Maita Marimo and Zuvva by Joyce. The five days of shows were unique in that they were open to the public and the fashionistas were out in force. Top international style blogger Scott Schuman “The Sartorialist” was present with fellow blogger Sam Lambert to catch the best of local street style. Editors, reporters and photographers from top South African and international publications and media were present, such as Marie Claire, Elle, SABC, The Huffington Post and FAB Magazine, along with buyers from all over the world.

The Ndau Collection was very well received, with local buyers choosing to stock the collection and international buyers showing the biggest interest, especially from the USA. Several pieces were featured in style blogs on Fashion Week, as well as given airtime on Mzansi, ETV and SABC channels and upcoming magazine features and shoots. With new design collaborations formed with international designers such as Tina Lobondi, The Ndau Collection will be showing internationally in the new year, so it’s watch this space for the home-grown brand from Victoria Falls!
