Living and working in Victoria Falls brings about an unspoken obligation – that of taking a role in conserving the natural beauty of the flora and fauna of our home. For most of us who live here, loving our town, spectacular waterfall, majestic wildlife and incredibly diverse surroundings, this is not exactly a chore!

Some members of our community make conservation their life’s mission – one of these is Charles Brightman who, together with Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, established the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit in January 1999. Starting off with three scouts, the aim of the unit has been to fight the destruction taking place, working closely with National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the Zimbabwean Republic Police. There are now 18 full time scouts patrolling an area approximately fifty square kilometers surrounding Victoria Falls, working with the local authorities to combat poaching in all its various forms.

In such a mission, there is never enough when it comes to funding and public awareness. At The Ndau Collection it is part of our credo to be environmentally responsible. This has led to the development of a sterling silver range based on the concept of anti-poaching, designed in collaboration with talented local carver Justice Ncube.

Miniature rhino and kudu horns, a lion’s claw, pangolin scale and elephant tusk have been painstakingly sculpted in two sizes. These have then been cast in sterling silver using the lost wax method and from there made into a unique range of jewellery. Currently, a necklace, bracelet, earrings and ring have been created, with more pieces to follow shortly. For every piece that The Ndau Collection sells from this range, 20% will be given to VFAPU to aid them in their anti-poaching efforts.
