Elegant in shape and classy in design, the new Zambezi Royal cruise boat is the latest addition to the Wild Horizons fleet on the upper Zambezi. Guests are welcomed by the boat Captain and his crew, and are served champagne and cocktails upon boarding the vessel.

The décor of the boat takes you back to the early 1900s, whilst still portraying a modern feel with lushly designed wicker furniture and tasteful finishings. Finger snacks are served before departure, while the chef on board prepares the warm canapé buffet.

The afternoon sun slowly sinks below the horizon behind a brilliantly lit cloud formation, illuminating the Zambezi waters, and highlighting the majestic and unmistakable profile of ilala palms that grace the banks of the river.

Guests can peruse the bird and wildlife reference books on the coffee tables whilst taking in the scenery and enjoying the ample wildlife sightings of hippo, crocodile and elephant.

The Captain of the vessel will occasionally stop to point out sightings of interest, and will deliver a brief history of the Zambezi River, its flora and fauna, and of the Victoria Falls itself.

Guests can enjoy their gourmet snacks with a variety of premium brand beverages, and there’s a cocktail menu to choose from. The cocktail barman will be happy to suggest a concoction that matches your personality!

The spacious vessel was custom-built for Wild Horizons by Turbo-Glass Zimbabwe, and although built to accommodate up to 60 passengers, the boat only books a maximum of 28 passengers, allowing guests to cruise in comfort and style.

For me, my cruise was a beautifully smooth and elegant experience and priced only marginally higher than a regular tourist sundowner cruise.
