Lusaka’s retail facilities continue to grow

Lusaka is rapidly beginning to stand on it’s own feet for retail services and facilities.  With the city’s first modern mall, Manda Hill, having last year under-gone renovation and expansion, this year saw the opening of Makeni Mall, a large new mall on the main road between Lusaka and Livingstone.

Makeni Mall brought Zambia’s first drive-thru, a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet; and it’s Pick n Pay anchor store has the largest retail floor space in Zambia.  Bringing employment to the surrounding areas of Lilayi and Makeni, Makeni Mall has provided residents and visitors on the south side of Lusaka with a fantastic variety of leading retail outlets previously only available in the centre of the city or at Manda Hill and Arcades.

In addition to the KFC restaurant, Makeni Mall offers a diverse range of food outlets: The Cake Bar, Debonairs Pizza, Delish bakery and coffee shop, Milky Lane ice cream bar, Nana’s cafe, Nando’s, King Pie and Traditional Fish & Chips.  These are complemented by a variety of clothing and footwear boutiques (including regional chains Woolworths and PEP Stores), electronics (including a flagship LG store), gift stores, furniture stores and financial services in the form of bureaux de change and banks (FNB and Standard Chartered).

The spread of developments like Makeni Mall and the increasing number and scale of these highlights the demand for quality retail in Lusaka, and will benefit residents and visitors alike.
