The Zambian Art and Design Show

The Zambian Art and Design Show (ZADS) 2012 were held at the Lusaka Showground on Sunday 18th November 2012.

The best of Zambia’s art and craft is on display.  Visitors could find bags, clothing, fabric, fine art, photography, delicious food, furniture, glass products, lighting, pottery, skin care products and innovative crafts.  It was a one-stop shop for the Christmas shopper.

With tasty food and live entertainment it was an excellent family day out.  Over 2,000 visitors attended the event and reports from visitors and exhibitors are that it was definitely an event to programme in for next year.
The Zambian Art and Design Show started in 2007 as a simple Christmas Fair in the back garden of Sugar Bush Farm in Lusaka. Gillie Lightfoot and her husband, the owners of Sugar Bush, had been making handbags for about a year and invited a few other Zambian-based artisans to join them. Ham rolls, mince pies and a cup of coffee were provided for those who came, it was the beginning of bigger things.

The show gathered popularity and by 2010 The Zambian Arts and Design Show was born, a committee was formed and the show became a professional event, by 2011 it became necessary to move the show to a larger venue, now in its second year at the Lusaka Agricultural Showground this annual event looks like it will continue from strength to strength for years to come, a wonderful occasion to show off Zambian talent.
