Zambia hosts Royal conference

The 25th conference of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC), a group of agricultural show society and organizations, was held at the Zambezi Sun and Royal Livingstone hotels in Livingstone in September.  With distinguished guests including HRH the Princess Royal, His Honour the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Guy Scott, the Deputy Prime Minister for Zimbabwe the Honourable Thokozani Khupe and the Rt. Hon Lord Vestey KCVO, the conference brought 300 delegates from across the Commonwealth to discuss the theme of Feeding People.  The conference spanned World Agriculture Day and issues such as the impact of the environment on agriculture, commercial opportunities for agriculture in Africa and the challenges faced by farmers progressing from small-scale to large-scale were debated.

With Zambia often mooted as having the potential to be the breadbasket for southern Africa, the location of the conference also gave delegates the opportunity to tour small-scale and commercial farms in Zambia with ZAMAG Tours & Safaris.  ZAMAG also organized visits to attractions in Botswana, and Zimbabwe giving the visiting delegates a good idea of what the Zambezi region can offer.

The resulting publicity brought Zambia, especially Livingstone and the Victoria falls into the limelight, with many delegates expressing a desire to return to the area.
