Zambian lodge takes luxury award

Zambia was in the spotlight on the global tourism stage when the David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa collected the World Luxury Hotel Awards category ‘Best Safari Lodge & Spa in Africa’ this October.

The prestigious oscar was presented to director Steve McCormick at the annual awards banquet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. McCormick said this was a triumph for Zambia as it showcased that there are world-class facilities in the country waiting to welcome discerning visitors.

“With Zambia co-hosting the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly in August next year, this award sends a powerful message that delegates are assured of world-class service and experiences in the heart of authentic Africa,” McCormick said.

“I used the occasion to spread the word as strongly as possible that the UNWTO summit will be an enormous success and that we intend to surpass all previous summits in terms of the overall experience. I’m certain many more global accolades and testimonials will follow the UNWTO event.”
The World Luxury Hotel Awards organisation sets the benchmark for luxury facilities and service excellence. Awards are presented annually in different categories on a country and global basis.

In 2010 the David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa, a 77-room property situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, was the winner of the category “Best Luxury Game Lodge in Zambia.”

“Now we have been honoured as the finest on the entire continent,” said Keith Rissik, general manager. “This is wonderful news and a big boost for Zambian tourism.”
Director McCormick commented that one of the judges, who had stayed at the lodge, came over to him after the ceremony and said that the award went to the David Livingstone for the lodge’s style and architecture, well presented, spacious rooms, location and views, the food and exceptional service.

“He stressed that the main reason was the attentive and friendly staff that made his stay so memorable. While we stood out in terms of total delivery of a world class product, we outperformed all other five star resorts and hotels in Africa for one decisive reason – our exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. I salute them.”
