Snared Batonka zebra

Snared Batonka zebra

Zebra reported 12 April with wire around the neck and trailing along the ground

Although the wire around the neck was not tight, the concern was the trailing piece of wire which could damage the hooves or get caught up on something which would then tighten the wire around the neck. So we were keen to remove it as soon as possible  Thank you again to Bigboy Sezerka and Micah Mataya who reported seeing a snared Zebra near Nyamhunga on Friday 12 April.

The snared Zebra was darted and snare removed Monday afternoon 15 April
Dr Mukarati  who was on his way up to the University did the darting and our local Vets also joined in to see how things are done in the bush here.
The snare was made of the same wire that is found lying around that Telone uses on the telephone lines

Thank you to the many concerned residents who made the effort to report the Zebra's whereabouts  so we could keep tabs on him until Dr Mukarati  arrived - it made things a lot easier and faster in getting everyone to where the Zebra was and to remove the snare.

Please can people take note of time of day as well as location when making report of sightings of injured animals as they still manage to get around pretty fast.
